Ranking the 2018 NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year candidates

The dust has settled on the 2018 NFL Draft, but it’s never too early to start thinking about the impact the rookies will have on their new teams. And for a couple players, the 2018 season will end with Rookie of the Year honors.

It’s not too difficult to narrow the list of rookies down to a handful of candidates who have the best shot at winning the awards.

For one, first-round picks have the best shot by a mile.

Since 1989, the only players taken outside the first round to win Defensive Rookie of the Year were linebackers DeMeco Ryans and Kendrell Bell, who were picked No. 33 and No. 39 overall, respectively.

GM Chris Ballard snagged three second rounders from the Jets (two in this draft) to move down three spots. He still got the player, Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson, who might have been pick had Indy stayed put. Perfect choice. However, those Round 2 picks… OLB Darius Leonard, G Braden Smith, pass rusher Kemoko Turay and DE Tyquan Lewis — all felt like possible reaches for a roster that can’t afford more misses.

Coach Mike Zimmer is surely happy to add a third first-found corner (Mike Hughes) to his secondary. Hughes will help in nickel packages and as a returner right away. Beyond that, hard to see many rookies here who will play immediately — unless second-round T Brian O’Neill proves he’s ahead of schedule from a strength standpoint.

According to court records, Gassnola, director of the Adidas-sponsored AAU program New England Playaz, was indicted on March 30 and surrendered to authorities on April 11. He was released on $50,000 bond.

The indictment released on Friday alleges that Gassnola and others, known and unknown, participated in a scheme to defraud certain universities, by making, agreeing to make, and concealing, including through false representations and pretenses, payments to the families of high school student-athletes in connection with the student-athletes’ commitment to play basketball for those universities, thereby causing the universities to provide athletic scholarships to those student-athletes who, in truth and in fact, were ineligible to compete as a result of the payments.

In a March 30 court filing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Eli Mark said Gassnola participated in proffer sessions before he was charged, revealing new information that Cheap Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys might lead to grand Cheap Original Soccer Jerseys jury subpoenas or indictments for individuals not currently charged in the cases.
